painting the sky
water colors earth tones Oh, to be able to fly To break away from these earth bound chains To breathe deep, the air away from smog Yet I am not built for the sky my feet keep me planted on this Rock While my mind takes me on adventures to far-off places New scenes, new spaces New friends, new sounds New sights, new faces New trials, new tribulations Maybe not, now that I think of it Maybe I'll just stay here where I know it to be safe in this calm, luscious thicket If I tilt my head this way the sky is visible to watch the birds flocking back from their winter vacation Oh, the places they go "What did you see?" I ask the passing flock of course, they don't answer I am all the way down here Where the flora muffles my sound Moss cushions my head as I gaze up at the sky Does anyone else see these extraordinary sights? Flying creatures defying gravity I must not get my hopes up too high What goes up must come down My dreams cannot be dashed if I Never the ground Here I'll stay, watching the painted sky Checking in with reality While my dreams fade away with the flock I wish them well for flying higher than I can reach
