Paid Attention
I remember having blood draws, where I was afraid I'd pass out, or have a seizure, and many staff gathered around me to distract me and keep me company. What do you like to do for fun? they asked. What's your favorite color? And I answered. They were such simple questions, but that's all it needed to be. I was happy that people, even complete strangers, wanted to know about me, and cared for me.
