One More Breath
She holds him close, her arms worn thin, His blood like rain upon her skin. A life once bright, now still and small, A silent plea within these walls. “God, just once… let him awake, Let his chest rise, let his heart not break. Give him back to me, one fleeting day, One stolen breath, one chance to stay.” Her lips are dry, her voice a thread, Trembling words for the child she bred. Each heartbeat lost, a cruel thief, Each sigh a wound, each tear a grief. Hands hover useless, shadows fall, Yet her faith refuses to leave the call. She rocks him gently, whispers low, “Return to me, I cannot let go.” Tears and blood entwine her prayer, A desperate plea hangs in the air. “I’ll love you forever, my precious one, You are my moon, my stars, my sun.” The silence presses, heavy, still, Yet hope persists, defies all ill. A fragile spark, a quiet fight, Clinging to faith in the endless night. “Please… just one more breath, one glance, one smile, To hold you close, if just a while. Let me hear your laughter, see your face, Let love prevail in this cruel place.” She rocks him gently, heart unbent, Prayers rising with her grief unspent. For one last chance, one borrowed breath, To fight, to hope, to cheat away death.
