Oh Nigeria!!!
We were told we were free… That the chains had fallen, that the sun had risen, That the soil beneath our feet was ours again. But freedom came wrapped in silence, A silence filled with hunger, With promises unkept, With leaders who built thrones from our broken backs. We walk the streets with empty hands And heavy hearts, Whispering to ourselves—is this the freedom they dreamed of? Yet still… a fragile light survives. In the laughter of children, In the fire of youth who refuse to give up, In the quiet prayers of mothers And the sweat of fathers who believe tomorrow might be kinder. This land still holds a song, A song of hope not yet sung, A sunrise not yet seen. So on this Independence Day, We remember the freedom we have, But long for the freedom we deserve. And we ask—not in despair, but in faith— When, oh when, will that dawn finally come?
