numbness of the soul.
Numbness creeps like a silent thief, Stealing all but the coldest grief. No joy, no pain, no rise or fall, Just emptiness, an endless sprawl. I used to feel, once upon a time, Emotions rich, both bitter and prime. But now the world is drained of hue, And I’m left with nothing, nothing new. The laughter that once filled my ears, Now echoes faint, too far to hear. Tears that fell, like summer rain, Have dried and left no trace of pain. My heart, once warm, now beats in vain, A hollow drum, an empty refrain. I walk through life, a ghost unseen, A shadow of what I might have been. I touch, but there's no warmth in skin, I see, but nothing stirs within. Each breath I take is just a task, No joy, no sorrow, no need to mask. I’m less than human, more than void, A being the world has long since toyed. Detached from all that makes us whole, I’ve lost the spark, the burning soul. In this numbness, I’m adrift, A vessel lost, a broken gift. I feel no pain, but is that gain? Or just another, deeper strain? To be numb is to be free, they say, But in this freedom, I decay. For what is life without the feel? A hollow wound that will never heal. heal I'm gone.
