North Shores
When winter ends it's annual war On this endless, wildly windy shore Where squawking, soaring gulls still hover As if to say it's finally over And so there's here no more to dread They, with their silhouetted wings outspread Each attempt to catch the sweeping breeze While sea walls outline the rows of trees And the tide marches inexorably in But then, being relentless, out again Now, soon comes Spring, the child of hope Sprinkling flowers down the seaside slope With Summer being not too far behind When the beach will teem with humankind And small crabs scrabbling across the strand As those happy swimmers swarm the sand So, each season in a timely fashion comes The one, just when the other one, succumbs One season after to the next, and on and on For countless cycles; an endless marathon North Shores, alive with generations of life Struggling to survive within this perfect strife Reflects nature and the environment it sustains And that the sea, in constant balance, must maintain
