No Respect for the Young Poet
My eyes glaring red, Anger, Frustration, My thirst for respect unquenched. When do my chains get cut, When do I get to be, Instead trapped in this Victorian castle, A character in an age old novel, I demand my release, Counting my coins As if each one is a mile, Unlock the cage, Destroy the bars, Watch them bend and twist like wire, Show me my deserved respect, My boundaries not just a mindset, Yet here I am, Closed away from the world, A prisoner of my poisoned mind, Caged in these 220 year old walls, Where respect doesn't grow on trees, And you feel the liberty Being sucked from your body, Until you grow old, And in a trance wander the garden with your cigarette.
