No Need of Flame
No hand required to stir the breath The breath is stirred; it moves with light. No spark demanded out of death, For morning comes without a knight. The pulse beats not to lover’s drum, Nor waits on eyes to feel the day. The wind may speak, or speak to none Still, leaves shall toss in fearless play. What need of touch to know the skin? The skin still warms beneath the sun. The soul expands not just within The orbit of another one. Let others chase the falling star, Or trace their names in mirrored grace The sky remains, both near and far, With or without a waiting face. The world is wide, the world is deep And hearts can rise though none may fall. The path walks on, the hills are steep— Yet steps press forward, whole and tall.
