My Purple
I used to wear shadows, the comfort of black, A color of calm, of holding things back. It wrapped me in quiet, in mystery's hue, Until our daughter painted my world anew. She came with laughter, with light in her hands, And told me of purple—the color that stands For dreams and for wonder, for courage and grace, A color that dances with joy on her face. At first, I just smiled at her favorite shade, But slowly, the black in my heart began to fade. Because purple, I learned, is more than a hue— It’s the blending of red's fire and blue's truth too. It’s fierce and it's tender, it’s bold and it's kind, It speaks of a love that no darkness can bind. In purple I saw what I’d never believed: That love can be soft, and still never leave. So now, when I say it, it’s more than a word— You’re my purple—my soul, my world, undeterred. The only one I ever need or adore, My heart in your hands, forever, and more.
