My Knight
You say you’d burn the world to keep me warm, A kingdom lost to ash for just one smile. But if you leveled every wall to face the storm, Could I stand against the ruin for a while? Could I be the one to hold the line for you, As you have always held the world for me? You chase the nightmares from my restless bed, Hunting shadows ‘til the dawn breaks through. So let me pull the weight from your weary head, And cradle the pain that only a hero knew. I will hold your heart until its thundering calms, And teach your heavy soul how it might sleep. I see your hands, so steady in the fray, Yet trembling as they tend to every wound I bear. You hide your jagged edges and your gray, Beneath the silver plate and stoic glare. But let my kiss become the mend you need, To heal the hidden scars you try to hide. For if you love me with a flame so deep, A devotion that no crown could ever claim— Know that I have promises to keep, And I will always love you just the same.
