My Darkest Fear
I'm not afraid of love's sharp sting, Nor heartbreak's familiar ring. Not the storm's wild, raging sea, Nor the monster lurking beneath my spine. I'm not afraid of heights' steep fall, For failure's lessons I recall. I'm not afraid of walking alone, In endless nights my soul revives. But I fear growth, life's shadowy core, Watching youth's vitality seep Like sand between fingers, lost once more. Aging's slow, relentless ache. I fear not being able to climb, To walk, to run, to feel alive. I fear everything that grows will die Inevitably, leaving emptiness, a lonely sigh.
