My confession
I longed to tell you, "I love you," But held back those words, Once before, I did confess, I showed my love in deeds, not in verse. I feared to open up again, This fear I knew too well, I rode the tides and rushing winds, But sensed your need to dwell. You sought more, needed closure, Constant assurance from my side, Afraid you'd grow too attached, I'd break your heart with pride. Selfish, perhaps, I kept you distant, Did not wish your full embrace, Feared I'd become the one, To bring your heart disgrace. You felt something was amiss, But I wished to manage it alone, Overthinking, worrying, seeking answers, Leaving you to groan. I tried to make you understand, Words bitter but true, Hoping to pass this phase, Yet fear in me grew. Would I leave you? Never planned to, only work things out, But kept silent as my shield, Your heart filled with doubt. In sorrow, you woke me early, Suggested we be friends, I thought it best to end it now, Than bring more pain at the end. A painful choice for both of us, Sorry it ended so, Better now than later heartbreak, This, you need to know.
