My Breath
I sat beneath my favorite tree With the sun on my back Hoping to erase the boundary Between me and the world I followed my breath Coming in from the wind and watched as it flowed out down to the little pond where the green frogs sat around and I watched him inhale my air then he sat on my shoulder and we followed the same breeze as it strolled through the town where it was picked up by a bluejay he held that breath for just a moment then let it go on and joined us as we watched that little breath make it's way around the bicyclist inhaled it and exhaled it a second later then he too joined us on our odyssey that little breath moved with rapid speed down the street to the old man we helped him up as he joined us and pretty soon we welcomed a mechanic, a postman, a dog and a crow a young boy playing baseball a horse, a mother, a spider too we all watched that breath and welcomed those to walk and before too long we had a father, a friend a priest and a cat. there was a monk a soldier, a singer and a star we welcomed all those who joined in our breath and pretty soon the whole world was watching as that shared breath was used and then at last I felt the boundary erase and I was one with the world
