monsters
You make your own monsters Like a child staring into the opening maw of their bed What monstrosity lives under there waiting to be fed Be it on your head, come look under the bed, be it in your head Monsters are real But theyre downstairs drinking and waiting till theyre liqored up Before they come and wake you, to drink from their own cup They eat their own pups, when theyre stuck, they eat their own pups. Monsters live in the shadows And smile and shake your hand by day The business men on their knees for the decimal point, pray But numbers arent grey, theyre god, numbers arent grey Monsters lie in reflections Even mine And yours, a gentle freak whos symmetry is askew you cant tell who is who, but something is off with you I by you I mean me, but see, by me i mean you Monsters come in all shapes and sizes They bite and tear and scare for their pleasure No matter the meaning, a man or his measure They inflict love, and hatred, until youre reeling, they inflict love and hatred.
