Michelangelo’s Soliloquy
Pieta As I hold the chisel and the hammer, my heart is overcome with doubt My mind is invaded with uncertainty and fear As I realize the significance my art will hold Portraying the pain that went untold My heart cries out to you mother O Mary, O Mary!!! How will I ever be able to capture? The anguish your eyes hold The sorrow your heart withhold The tremble on your lips The longing in your eyes How will I ever be able to capture? The tears that threaten to run down your cheeks The blinding pain that numbs your heart The exhaustion in your limbs As you hold your little boy’s limp body in your arms How will I ever be able to capture? How your fingers trace over his wounds How your heart wishes to heal his scars How your mind screams with agony How your hands wish to feel the warmth of his body Guide me O mother! To make this art a representation of your longing To make this a symbol of pity and compassion To establish this art as a reminder To remind the world of the sacrifice of a mother To remind the world of the love of their Almighty Father To remind the world of what they lost To remind the world of what their salvation cost.
