Melancholy
Melancholy: a feeling of pensive sadness, typically with no obvious cause. To me, it feels like awakening deep in a forest with nobody around. Or wandering around a rain moistened city alone. I feel it deeply when imagining these things, and find myself imagining these things when I feel it most deeply. It's thinking of home, when home wasn't that great. Or feeling the warmth of another, when there is no love between you. I sense it creeping into my thoughts whenever I do either. It oversaturates the senses with color and vivid detail. Like an overexposed photograph. Or a painting that was crafted with too heavy a hand. All the while it soaks everything away from you. Turning thoughts into gray bastardizations of what you saw before. Melancholy exists like all of this and more to me. I find it invading my thoughts more and more.
