Maybe This Time
I was never the I fell first kind, He said he did, and I lost my mind. Each sunrise made me fall once more, Till love felt safe, then slammed the door. But truth came quiet, soft and deep— Another name he chose to keep. A ghost returned from days behind, To claim the heart I thought was mine. He was a coward dressed in care, Too scared to show me anywhere. Too weak to say, “She’s mine to hold,” So I walked out, my spirit bold. Now I’m learning how to stand, With trembling smile and steady hand. And here he comes with laughing eyes, No fear, no masks, no hidden ties. He holds my hand before the crowd, Says “She’s my girl,” his voice so proud. No shame, no games, just open skies, Truth reflected in his eyes. Yet still I whisper to my heart, Don’t rush too fast, don’t fall apart. For love can turn, I’ve learned before, What’s warm today may chill once more. Still, he makes me laugh, I can’t deny, He lifts my heart when I want to cry. Maybe this time, the story will stay, And love won’t leave—it’ll choose to stay.
