Loyalty
They thought him loyal to a fault because he cared for her so much: He, outside her burial vault, she, lost forever to his touch. His frequent visits to her tomb caught the interest of the town. He was at her door each noon before the courthouse bell would sound. He brought her flowers every day, the seasons that they were in bloom. And he would kneel awhile and pray amidst the flowery sweet perfume. He was faithful all this time, for at her door, he would appear. He would be there rain or shine, and this he did for fifty years. Then one stormy rain-filled day, when spring flowers were in bloom, the people brought him there to stay; placed him beside her in the tomb.
