Love Bites
The bite of soft reassurances that slip past your lips, Hurts more than rope burns on skin as I tug and it rips, The bite of a fleeting touch, Stabs more than the glass I clutch, The bite in your loving gaze, Burns more than the suns rays, The bite of your regret, Hurts more than the needs unmet, Because hating is easy when its warranted, Knowing someone is malicious, removes the shame and guilt, Knowing there's a party to blame, But what am I to do, When you plead with me to understand you? How can I hate such an innocent thing, For all the pain it doesn't mean to bring? I want to hate you for the pain that you cause, But when love bites, I am trapped in its jaws
