loneliness amidst a crowd
The room is full of voices, a steady, rhythmic hum, I’m surrounded by the laughter of a dozen different some. There are names inside my contact list, a thousand "how are you’s," But when the colors start to fade, I’m left with shades of blues. It’s a crowded sort of silence, a hollow kind of loud, To be the one who’s smiling in the center of the crowd, While beneath the skin, the tectonic plates begin to shift and slide, And there isn't any lifeboat for the rising of the tide.I reach for a solution, but my hands find only sand, There is no map or compass for this broken, inner land. No "five-step plan" to fix the soul, no logic for the ache, Just the cold and heavy knowledge of how much a heart can take. To have everyone watching, yet feel entirely unseen, Is to live within the static of a flickering, gray screen. I am a house with many guests, where every light is on, But the owner’s in the basement, waiting for the dawn— Breaking down in private, while the party carries on upstairs, Drowning in a sea of people who would help... if they were there.
