Lies of Happily Ever After
They sell us tales with gilded ends, Where every wound and heartache mends. A prince, a kiss, a fleeting dance, Promises of a perfect chance. But happily ever after’s a lie, A dream they weave to pacify. For life is cruel, its edges sharp, Not every story ends with a harp. They tell us love will conquer all, But sometimes, love is what makes us fall. A poisoned apple, a cursed rose, Disguised as love, in sweet repose. The castle crumbles, the glass breaks, The prince’s smile is just a fake. In every “ever after” lie, There’s a shadow lurking, waiting to pry.For life isn’t scripted, neat and clean, It’s filled with scars we’ve all seen. The princess cries, the hero bleeds, Happily ever after sows dark seeds. The light fades out, the darkness creeps, Into the dreams we hold so deep. And as the tale draws to its close, The truth of life is what it shows:There is no end that’s truly sweet, No final victory, no grand defeat. Just endless nights and endless pain, A cycle of loss, a ceaseless chain. So toast to tales that blind the eye, And to the truths they can’t deny. For in the end, as shadows cast, We all become the ghosts of our past.
