let Her Go
I wish you knew the tears I shed that day, When I chose to turn and walk the other way. The night grew cold as I finally let you go, With a pain in my chest that you’ll never know. The silence of the night heard every cry, As I forced my heart to bid its last goodbye. I whispered "be strong" to a soul so weak, While I begged my feet to stay firm on the floor. I broke myself to keep my dignity whole, Reclaiming the pieces of my battered soul. The love I offered was a gift, pure and deep, Not a favor to ask or a secret to keep. So I let the silence take what we had built, Then there was nothing left for me to save. I walked away not because I wanted to part, Leaving the ghost of our "forever" far behind.
