Let Eden Go
She had the choicest fruits of all; none poisonous none bitter Her lions knew no bloodthirst neither did her sheep know fear of death All the minerals of this earth was her garment which she flaunted in the sight of her King Let Eden Go! Oh her waters were as bright and clear as crystal, her sun was the glory of God In her bosom was found the Tree of Life Eden was Heaven, His Kingdom Come! Young bears nested with young lambs Eden was peace in its fullness Oh Let Eden Go! But how can I when she is the answer to all my worries ? How can I when she,though in the past, holds the keys of the present ? Oh Eden is where I want to be! Her beauty and peace is all I want to see But I sold birthright for food Like Esau, Heaven's dew for stew So this yoke of burden must I bear, this spirit of vexation is my despair It is only wise to let Eden go and till the land I am cursed to plough Perhaps this land can adorn herself as Eden ; a frail reflection of what was taken It is only wise to let Eden Go!
