Just Friends
I could say it a thousand times or more, That we're just friends, nothing more, But with each word, my heart denies, The truth that hides behind the lies. And I could pretend, try to bury the feeling, But it claws at my chest—never ceasing. Every touch, every glance, sends a shiver down my spine, As I struggle to keep my emotions in line. With every smile you send my way, I die a little more, day by day. For I know deep down, That we're just friends and I can't ask why. We laugh and joke, pretending it's fine, But deep down, we're walking a thin line. To hold you close, to call you mine, Yet I bury it, time after time. We share our days, talk, like any pair, But there's a weight we both bear. A tension hangs between us two, Unspoken, but felt, by me and you. It's in the way you touch my hand, Or how we linger where we stand. The sound of your voice, the way you sigh, It's hard to believe it's all a lie. When I see the longing in your eyes, It tears me apart inside. I want to scream, to shout it out loud, But I fear it'll shatter what we've found. And as I breathe my final breath, I'll forever wonder what could have been— 'til death Knowing we're more, But I'll never dare. For admitting it means risking it all, And watching our friendship slowly fall. But the regret, it gnaws, it stings, Knowing I'll carry this until my last springs. So I'll keep saying we're just friends— A thousand times and more, I'll carry this burden, Hoping this ache in my chest someday, ends. Hoping one day, it'll finally rest. But until then, I'll hold onto this lie, Praying that someday, the truth will break free. I'll keep pretending, day by day, though it tears me apart, That we're just friends— When you own my heart.
