Into the dawn
The wind moves softly through the trees, It does not stop, it does not grieve. It hums a tune, so faint, so low, And whispers, "Come, it’s time to go." The road was long, the climb was steep, I learned to wake, I learned to weep. I planted seeds, I watched them grow, And left them there for winds to sow. I’ve known the weight of bitter days, The nights that bent me in their ways. But even storms will bow and cease, And leave behind a quiet peace. No footprints last upon the ground, The rain will wash them, safe and sound. No voice will linger in the air, The world forgets, but I won’t care. For what I had was mine to keep, The joys I sowed, the love I reaped. And though the sun will set tonight, I do not rage, I do not fight. Let roots grow deep where I shall lay, Let seasons pass, let children play. And if one asks where I have gone, Say, "Through the dusk, into the dawn." No chains, no fear, just rest awhile, For when I go, I’ll go with a smile
