Inheritance
Is it only assets that parents can pass down? My mother's rage and my father's sorrow are all I wear as a crown. His shattered dreams and her scattered screams Echoed through my voice, stealing my gleam. Endless slamming doors and curses that rot the veins— They wrapped them unknowingly as gifts for me to gain. I tried to run, to create a home of my own, Only to realize it was a mirage all along. Weren't they the same? They were once twenty too, With eyes full of hope and wishes lined in queue. Harshness came with winter; hatred grew, Their love withered as they aged, in a house filled with woes. Did they break with time, when the truth was unveiled? Am I making the same mistakes, not knowing how to prevail? The same regrets, the cycle unbroken, misfortunes overdue— I walked so far, yet looking back, I was still in their shoes. Between us lies a generation’s gap, But it still feels like déjà vu.
