I'm Not Perfect
I confess, I'm a tapestry of imperfections, woven with threads of mistakes and frailties A fragile, fallible being, prone to errors, and vulnerable to weaknesses I don't deny the missteps, the stumbles, the falters, and the falls For I am human, with all the attendant flaws, and frailties that entails There are those who gaze upon me with disdain, with scorn, with disappointment Their eyes clouded by the memories of past hurts, and past wrongs I acknowledge the pain, the anguish, the sorrow that I've caused And I take responsibility for my actions, with a contrite heart, and a humble pause But let us not forget, I am also a human being, with feelings, with emotions, with vulnerabilities A complex, multifaceted individual, with strengths, and weaknesses, with triumphs, and failures I am not a paragon of perfection, a flawless icon, or an unblemished idol I am a work in progress, a masterpiece unfinished, a canvas still being painted The truth is, I won't, and I can't please everyone For the expectations, the demands, the desires of others are as varied, as they are vast I'll stumble, I'll falter, I'll fail, and I'll fall But I'll rise again, I'll learn again, I'll grow again, and I'll overcome again.
