I'll Just Ask
I told myself you had too much going on. Too many meetings, too many miles to run, too many people already pulling at your sleeve. So I didn’t ask. Didn’t call. Didn’t say, “I could really use you right now.” Not because I didn’t need you. But I thought needing made me weak. I thought asking meant bothering. I’ve worn independence like a medal and a mask. but it’s heavy, and lonely, and not always honest. The truth is, I didn’t want to risk the silence. Didn’t want to feel the sting of not being enough to make space for. But maybe, you would’ve made the time. Maybe, you would’ve picked up. Maybe, I stole from both of us a chance to connect by assuming you’d say no. I forget that people like showing up. That being needed can feel like purpose. That help isn’t weakness, it’s an invitation. So maybe next time, I won’t guess your answer. I’ll just ask.
