if regret could kill
I said a few things. You responded with other things. I jumped in without considering how deep the fall would be. Did you do the same? I can’t even say. I was too busy thinking about you to assess your actions. I created thousands of scenarios based on worthless words. Did you do the same? I can’t even say. I was too caught up in happiness to worry about future problems. I was mistaken, I think. I was deluding myself, I bet. I got ahead of myself, that’s what it seems. In the end, or almost near it, regret is the only feeling that lingers. But how can I regret those three minutes of happiness? How can I regret reading those worthless words? How? The feeling was too good. The unreal happiness that hit me, intoxicating. The feeling, finally reciprocated. The accomplishment, hard-earned. So know that if regret could kill, I would live for another sixty years.
