If Love Is Like This
I invested a hundred percent of my being, my heart, my soul, While you contributed a meager fifty, a paltry, lackluster role. I yearned for this love to flourish, to blossom, to thrive, Yet you failed to comprehend, to grasp, to reciprocate, and our love began to wither, to perish, to die. You discarded our love with reckless abandon, with callous disregard, Leaving my heart shattered, fragmented, and irreparably scarred. My memories of our time together began to fade, to dissipate, to disappear, As I struggled to come to terms with the demise of our love, the collapse of our relationship, the termination of our tender bond. Trust me, I am not being inhumane, unfeeling, or unsympathetic, I am merely endeavoring to salvage what remains of my shattered psyche. I am attempting to preserve my sanity, my emotional equilibrium, By relinquishing the remnants of our love, by releasing the lingering memories that continue to haunt me. Trust me, we are not adversaries, enemies, or foes, Our separation is not born of hatred, animosity, or rancor. I am acting out of love, out of a profound, abiding devotion, A love that has been transformed, transmuted, and transcended, yet still endures. In the depths of my soul.
