If I Were Pretty
If I were pretty, would they choose me? If I were pretty, would they love me? If I were pretty, would they hear my plea? If I were pretty, would they finally see? Because if that’s what it takes, Then pretty’s what I’ll strive to be. I want them to choose me, to love me, to care, To listen to my voice, to notice I’m there. I want them to like me, to look my way, But without being pretty, will they ever stay? Society has rules, and they seem so clear, First, you must be pretty—that’s all you hear. Second, be pretty, or else you’ll fade, Third, be pretty, or feel betrayed. Because if you’re pretty, boys flock to your side, If you’re pretty, you’ll gather a crowd, no need to hide. If you’re pretty, you’ll hold power and grace, If you’re pretty, the world falls into place.
