If I Were Her
She’s so pretty Perfect, flawless, effortless, A 10/10 even without makeup. And here I am, in front of the mirror, Layering foundation like armor, Hiding the cracks that scream insecurity. I look at her, And I see everything I’ll never be. Her smile draws you in, Her confidence radiates, Her presence undeniable. While me? I’m just… there, Invisible, fading into the background, Trying to stand out with every stroke of mascara That barely holds my fragile self together. But I wonder… If I looked like her If my skin were smooth like hers, If my body were shaped like hers, If I could exist so effortlessly beautiful, Would you stop for a second? Would you notice me, The way you notice her? Would you look at me, With those same soft eyes, That same crooked smile You give her every time she walks by? I don’t know. But it kills me, This comparison I never win. Because I’ll never be her. And maybe, Just maybe, That means I’ll never be enough for you. So I cover myself with makeup, Like a mask to hide my truth. I smile even when it hurts, I try even when I fail. But in the silence of my own thoughts, I ask: Is there the smallest chance That if I were her, You might love me too?
