I MIss MYSELF
Staring through the rearview mirror All the things I leave behind Start to cloud and disappear When they were so clear, once upon a time. I never dreamed I'd drive away off into the sunset and leave behind, all I've ever known With no regret or recollect I didn't make a plan to leave I didn't pack a suitcase or overnight bag I didn't bring a towel or change of clothes I left it all behind with you and every comment that you nagged The only thing I took was the only sliver of hope that I could find That somewhere on this new journey I might find my peace of mind All the little sentimental things Everything I had in drawers, closets, boxes and bags-- I left it all behind me freely trading it for a new life, with less snags The tank is full and I'm running 80 To a place I have never been In hopes to find the one thing that I lost and pray that I will never lose again-- Myself. And to me that's more important than the treasures I left there Everything can be replaced in time and if I don't, I still don't care. I've missed myself for so long I never should have let myself go of all the things I've lost and missed, I've missed myself more than anyone will ever know.
