I MESSED UP
I messed up by letting you in, it's true, Thought you deserved love, that's what I thought I knew, But you saw it differently, a twisted view, Believed I deserved punishment for loving you. In my naivety, I showed up when you were hurt, Thinking love could heal, mend your soul's dirt, But little did I know, it would only make it worse, I messed up, my heart now feeling a painful curse. For I fell in love with an image that wasn't real, Not what I truly got, but the mask you concealed, And as I unraveled, my heart left to reel, I messed up, blinded by love's intoxicating zeal. But I also messed up by staying around so long, In a toxic dance, where everything felt wrong, Ignoring my own worth, my voice drowned in song, I messed up, allowing my strength to be gone. And I messed up by being there at my own expense, Gave my all, while you took without recompense, My love, like an anchor, holding you in your defense, I messed up, losing myself in your pretense. But now I realize, as I watch over you, That in losing myself, I found a lesson true, To prioritize my heart, its value and its due, I messed up, but now, I rise from the residue. For I deserve a love that's honest and pure, A love that uplifts, not one
