I hate the mirror..
I hate the way my shadow bends, Like even darkness won’t pretend. The mirror keeps a list of flaws, Sharp as teeth and cold as claws. I pull my sleeves, avoid my face, Feel out of touch in every place. Like I was made all wrong somehow, And everyone else sees it now. The lights are on, the room still dim, My thoughts all sink, my chest grows thin. I laugh out loud, then go back numb, Like I’m a place no joy comes from. But somewhere underneath the ache, Past every cruel thought I make, A quieter voice still survives— Saying broken things stay alive.
