I Found a Corpse Yesterday
A soft crunch beneath my sole, demanding pause The charred ground groans, ash rains so gently down Strewn about, a thousand eyes once served as crown An attempt at autopsy, grasping at straws Scaled wings folded neatly, inviting applause No signs of flailing, seemingly homebound What shriek greeted death? Was no-one around? What could so swiftly crush your many claws? A mighty beast gone up in flames, And I've come with no burial cloth May these lines serve as tribute, dear moth A final flight, cut short by man's games Did you know what lay beyond that light? Does prior knowledge ever prevent the plight?
