Hunger for Love
As I lie beneath the weight of night, Staring at the ceiling, devoid of light, The things I’ve bought, the things I own, Cannot fill the hunger in my soul alone. A hunger for love, a gnawing need, A craving that grows with each breath, each speed Of time that ticks, a cruel refrain, The echo of loss, the depth of pain. Nothing satisfies, nothing can fill This empty void that time won’t still. For love, that sacred, guiding flame, Is out of reach, and calls my name. In every breath, in every spark, The agony lingers, sharp and dark. A woman could soothe this hollow ache, Could lift the weight, make me awake. But life, it binds, it traps, it holds, In prisons built with chains of gold. We cannot escape its quiet rage, Its cruel and torturous, endless cage. Every moment, every look, Leads us further from the love we seek. And though I yearn, I can’t break free, From this hunger, this death inside of me.
