how could they?
My eyes, on entering, found them there, entwined, A scene of sweetness, leaving me behind. She knew, she knew my heart held him so dear, Yet chose to claim him, whispering in his ear. A friend's betrayal, a sharp and stinging blow, Their touchy closeness, a painful, public show. Anger flared, but calm I had to feign, While silently, internally, I burned within. My bag I grabbed, a hasty, hurried flight, One last, faint hope he'd choose a different light. But no, he stayed, oblivious to my pain, Leaving me heartbroken, lost in pouring rain. Our paths then crossed, his gaze met mine so deep, The truth revealed, secrets my heart would keep. Infatuation, not love, a bitter, stinging truth, A soft smile offered, but met with silent ruth. Tears welled, unbidden, a silent, mournful stream, Oh, the betrayal, a shattered, broken dream. The sting of friendship lost, a wound so deep and wide, Leaving only emptiness, nowhere left to hide.
