Heartstrings
You were my "only go back to," once you said, Now I'm your "forever turn over to" instead. Am I just the one who mends your broken soul, Only to be discarded when you find a new goal? From friend to bestie, I played every role, Then suddenly your girlfriend, but you're not whole. You claimed I was your answered prayer divine, Yet you speak of longing for a love left behind. You say you can forget her, start anew, But if I left, you'd trust no woman, it's true. I see now I'm but a character in your play, A puppet for you to manipulate and sway. Now I write of you and us with just one wish, That my love for you fades like ink when it's finished, A story written in fleeting sorrow and pain, To be closed and forgotten like a passing rain. No longer will I dance to your whims or your strings, For I am more than a role in your fleeting flings. I am me, deserving of genuine love and respect, Not a pawn in your game, but a heart to protect.
