Hand-me Down
Hand-me downs From my grandparents to my parents then passed down to me Heavier and more jagged with each passing None of us ever quite prepared for the burden it brings Grandpa was a mean old man And grandma liked her liquor Anger and addiction passed down to the next Dad took that and multiplied it by 10 Drugs and alcohol became his very best friend Mom got some heavy shit from her parents too Both forced to carry the burden passed down to them Through the years adding their own weight to the load And soon they decide to have me, and start a family of their own And so repeating the vicious cycle I now have my very own hand-me down From my grandparents to my parents then passed down to me More jagged and heavy than it has ever been Leaving me with more addictions and issues than they could have known Forced to bear the weight of past generations The jagged edges so sharp they cut me bone deep I never asked for any of this! But I guess neither did my parents Nor their parents before them My only hope is that It stop here with me So my children don't have to bear the sins of their fathers So they don't have to carry the weight of the past on their shoulders
