Half-Empty
I give myself away in fragments, and no one even notices the pieces missing. They take what they want, and I let them, because some part of me believes that being used is better than being unseen. Every glance, every touch, feels like it could mean something but it never does. It ends before it begins, leaving me to mourn a love that never actually existed. I wait for messages that will never arrive. I keep the phone close, knowing it won’t light up, still pretending it might. I have made a home out of disappointment, sleeping next to the absence of love, waking to the sound of silence. It is a cycle I can’t escape the giving, the hoping, the breaking. And maybe this is all there is for me. A heart that keeps reaching, only to find emptiness. A body that stays warm for no one. A name no one says with love in their mouth. I used to believe someone would come. Now I know better. No one is coming.
