Great Debate
I shot for the moon, and I missed But still landed amongst the stars Where my dreams came rushing to my aid My thoughts, a get away car-- I retreat to a place of solitude by myself and I take a bottle of self pity that was sitting lonesome on the shelf I popped the cork and poured a drink Self loathing and wallowing in shame After the first glass was gone, I put the bottle to my lips and drank away, with only myself to blame. I stumbled through the hallways of my failures and into the grand entrance of my life-- Where memories hung like photos framed of my younger years as a mother and a wife. I sat there and relived my glory days, While memories played like old reel to reels in my mind looping, tears coming in waves. And in a drunken stupor Fueled by self pity and rage I busted up the shrine to my life From a family and home to a rat In a cage. Now as I lay sobering up in the ruins of my life, I debate whether to end it all-- or to carry on and fight through the pain and strife. And as I lie debating, My mind and thoughts grew clear-- That maybe all these events were lessons for a future growing near. And as I continued thinking hope grew from my self defeat... I knew what I had to do- I rose up to my feet.
