From Behind the Aquarium
From Behind the Aquarium.. ~ Samim Sk There she is— In that restaurant, her fingers laced with his, Laughter spilling from her lips, Eyes shimmering with a joy I have not seen in years. That woman is my wife... I have traced every inch of her bare skin, Felt her warmth in the silence of our home. But today, in this elegant place, I see her naked in a way I never have before... The man beside her- I know him. Her colleague, once a classmate, Now her prince charming.. He leans in, whispers something. She nudges him away, smiling. Maybe she is saving her touch, Her hunger, for later— For the moment I start calling in desperation, "Where are you?" "When will you be home?" "Did you eat?" "Did your presentation go well?"... The phone will ring unanswered. Missed calls will pile up, Just as their bodies will. Two tangled souls, lost in fevered passion, Unbothered by the sound of my name, Flashing on her screen. I stand behind the aquarium, unseen, Watching a love that no longer belongs to me. My vision blurs, but not from the glass— from the weight in my chest, From the slow unraveling of everything I believed was mine. Colorful, naked fish drift in their silent world, Gliding between the bubbles of emptiness.
