frightful nightmares
In the dead of night where shadows creep, I wander the edge of a restless sleep. A breath, a shiver, a scream so near, In the heart of darkness, I cradle my fear. The moon bleeds black, its light a stain, On a canvas painted with endless pain. Cold fingers trace the hollow of my soul, As night’s black maw swallows me whole.Eyes sewn shut by threads of dread, Yet still, I see the restless dead. Their hollow voices, a twisted choir, Their whispers fuel my funeral pyre.I fall, I fall, no end in sight, A puppet tangled in strings of fright. The earth beneath is cracked and cold, A grave dug deep for a heart grown old. Each breath I take, a gasp, a plea, For the dawn that will not set me free. The night terrors come, they never cease, In their grasp, I find no peace. So dance with me in this wretched mire, Where hope is ash and dreams expire. For in the darkness, I have found, That fear is a king with a thorny crown.
