For Once
Must I always be the poem, never the one they read! The quiet heart that waits, never the heart they need! Must I remain the tide that reaches farther than the shore, The wind that carries unspoken names to an unopened door. I always been the admirer, the lover standing apart, the one who holds the feeling carefully in her heart. But For once, may the tide I carry not return alone May the wandering wind find one open door to call its own. For once, may someone pause between these lines, and read the silence I could never speak. And perhaps these quiet lines that waited in the dark may finally rest in someone's heart.
