final act of love.
I used to think holding on was the brave thing so I kept stitching myself into every memory of you, changing little pieces of who I was, hoping it might pull you back to where we first crossed paths. I told myself love can be rebuilt if I tried hard enough if I softened the sharp parts if I learned how to quiet the storms inside me. But some doors don’t open again no matter how softly you knock. So I learned something I never wanted to learn. Letting you go is also a kind of devotion. It is turning away even when my chest feels hollow. It is accepting that love is not a puzzle to solve or a trick of timing but a choice that two people have to meet in the middle. I thought my changes would bring you back. Instead they brought me back to myself. And maybe that is the final act of love not dragging someone into a future they no longer want but wishing them peace while I walk forward alone with a quieter heart and a little more light.
