fantastical memories (revised)
I packed it in a box With cardboard straight as iron. It's folded with precision, wrapped in a bow of nylon Sometimes I find it tempting, Because I know what lies within. To simply pluck the bow's strings and I'd be there again I could indulge in the memory I could let it wash over me dig my fingers into scabs And Reread fantastical stories Temptation is a tether... and indulgence mends severs. What feels as light as feather Becomes the cunning devil's treasure I can't let things heal then reopen that pain. It's not fair to my cells that work so hard to mend I'll leave it a while Til my wrinkles are deep set- paths telling of life with the box gathering dust. Then Maybe one night, under the stars, I'll be eighteen again
