Fall's Arrival

Summer nights linger on as they grow shorter Auburn preludes the grand arrival of fall And coats gather in the main hall Farmers prepare for the bearing of winter As their beards grow into the mud Farmland becomes waterlogged The sparrows are on holiday in Lebanon Hopefully they send us some postcards And bring back a basket full of dates
