Fading Into Silence
I wish i could disappear, Like a whisper lost in the wind, Like a fleeting thought that never took hold, Erased from the pages of anyone's mind, As if i never existed at all. Would it hurt less if i had never been? Would their world spin smoother If my shadow had never crossed their paths? I wonder, in the depths of this quiet ache, If absence could be a kinder gift than memory. I wish i could fade, Like the remnants of a song long forgotten, Like a tear dried before it ever fell, So they'd never have to remember The weight of my presence in their life. Maybe then, I wouldn’t haunt these empty spaces, Wouldn’t echo in the corners of their heart, A ghost of what was, A reminder of what could never be. I wish i could vanish, Not with a bang, but with a sigh, A gentle release into the void, Leaving nothing behind but peace, For them, and for me. To disappear like i never existed, To unwrite the story where i was never the hero, To be a blank page, untouched, unsullied, Would that be freedom? Or just another kind of pain? Either way, i wish… i wish i could disappear.
