Fabric of Lies
You said I looked cute in your oversized sleeves, A soft, cotton promise I chose to believe. "I'm staying," you messaged, "I'm not going anywhere," As if words were anchors instead of just air. When the breaking point came, you softened the blow With a "lets just be friends" as you turned to go. But friends don't go silent for a calender year, and friends dont go missing when shadows get near. I handed yours back, folded neat, while you took my favorite and burned it instead. A ritual fire for the threads that we shared, While I was away, trying to get repaired. I heard in the ward that you built something new, trading my soul for a girl I never knew. If I'd known that "us" meant the end of "hello", I would have kept our hearts steady and kept it all low. I miss the guy with pretty eyes who made promises he couldn't keep, the one who stayed up when the world was asleep. If loving you meant I would lose you for good, I'd go back to just friends-if only I could.
